Almost Thanksgiving

It's to be our first Thanksgiving in our house. Pat will bring the pies and rolls. Betsy will do a yummy sweet potato dish and the toppings for the pies. I am going to cook the turkey, gravy, mashed potatoes, peas and stuffing. We will definitely over eat and love every minute and be glad we are together.

New Kitties

We decided after 2 1/2 years without a cat to take the plunge and add two kittens to the family. I went out to the Lawrence Humane Society and was faced with choosing from 3 rooms of kittens and cats. It was a hard task because I fell in love with so many of them!! In the end we chose a brother and sister who are 5 months old. the boy-tabby on tip- is Pica and the girl -calico on top- is Pixel. they are full of energy and make us laugh at all of the funny things they do.

While at my mother-in-laws house today I got the treat of a cedar waxwing on the birdbath. The are beautiful birds with their mask. The robins have been striping the berry bushes outside her bedroom. they are being very messy eaters.

This is the sky tonight. This afternoon we had a grass fire about a mile west of us. It's been really dry here with no measurable rain in sight.

January in Kansas

We made the move to Kansas at the beginning of the month. We are living on the edge of town and the sunsets out the back have been wonderful. The skies seem to be on fire. The down side is it's cold here. I had forgotten how the wind can take your breath away. The house is still for sale in Maryland but I lost my job so the decision was made for me to move. I was lucky enough to find a new job at the University of Kansas in the Continuing Ed Program. I will be learning all about the aerospace business.

I do have a new studio set up in one of the bedrooms in the house we are renting. I did a little stitching today just to see if my machine made the move, it did.

I have picked up knitting again and am trying to work my way through a pair of socks. I have lost count on how many times i have taken the stitches out!! There's been a lot of basketball and tennis to watch.

Till the next time.

September blues

My husband moved to Kansas in August and I am still in Maryland with the house which is for sale (see the picture).  I have my studio packed up and am missing working on my art work.

This past weekend my sister, niece and I went to Virginia Tech to see my nephew in the marching band.  He's one of two drum majors for the band.  They were marching for the first home game of the season.  Tech beat Furman 24 - 7.  We got to see Alex's first apartment, it was great.  Four boys living together, they had picked up since "moms" were coming to visit!

August 2008-lots has happened

Photo: View of Cagli, Italy

This summer has been a blur. We started in May traveling to Kansas to see our nephew Mack graduate from Bishop Seabury High School. We are all so proud of him. He's starting in the engineering school at KU this fall.

We spent the month of June in Cagli, Italy.  Mike was teaching web design and I was exploring, reading, knitting and learning a little Italian.

At the end of July we flew to Oregon for a few days before heading to Alaska for another trip on the boat, Snow Goose, for an 8 day trip through the inland passage.
